Damp Proofing in Cardiff

Damp in a Cardiff home can come up from the ground, in through an outside wall, or out of the air inside the house. Each of those needs a different repair, so we find out which one you have before recommending anything. A proper look around the property and damp meter readings tell us far more than a guess from the doorstep.

If a wall has to be sealed, we take off the failed plaster and go back to the brick, then apply an epoxy resin tanking system. That is fully sealed before new plaster goes on, and the wall is left ready for you to decorate.

What we do

  • A free survey to find the cause
  • Failed plaster taken off
  • Epoxy resin tanking for walls that need sealing
  • Walls replastered and made good

Good to know

  • A clear quote before anything starts
  • A 10-year guarantee that stays with the property
  • The house left clean after every visit
  • Key worker discount available

Condensation Control for Cardiff Homes

Black mould in the corner of a bedroom is often not damp in the wall at all. It tends to be everyday moisture from cooking, showers and drying clothes, landing on whichever surface in the room is coldest. One Cardiff customer called us about what looked like damp on a bedroom wall. It proved to be condensation, and a new fan in the bathroom was the answer.

We show you what the readings say and explain what is happening. The fix is usually better ventilation, better insulation or a bit of both. If it is something you can put right yourself, we will tell you so, at no charge.

What we do

  • A free condensation survey
  • The source of the moisture found
  • Fans and vents fitted where they will help
  • Cold spots insulated

Good to know

  • We will say if it is not damp
  • Advice is free, with no obligation
  • The cause fixed, not just the symptom
  • Can be combined with insulation work

Rising Damp Treatment in Cardiff

True rising damp is moisture drawn up a wall from the ground. You may notice tide marks, peeling paint or crumbling plaster just above the skirting. Not every low damp patch is rising damp, though, so we check before quoting for it.

Where it is the problem, we inject a silicone barrier along the wall to form a new horizontal damp proof course. Damaged plaster comes off, the wall is replastered, and you are left with a sound surface to paint or paper.

What we do

  • Rising damp confirmed before any quote
  • Silicone barrier injected into the wall
  • Damaged plaster replaced
  • Skirting line left tidy

Good to know

  • Advice on keeping the wall dry afterwards
  • A 10-year guarantee that stays with the property
  • Terraced and older homes welcome
  • Surveys are free

Cork Plastering and Insulation

Cork plaster is a natural insulating coat applied directly to the inside of a wall or to a ceiling. It goes on as a plaster rather than as boards, so it moulds itself to the room and leaves a seamless surface, and you give up very little floor space. It can often be applied with the skirting and coving left in place.

Warmer walls mean fewer cold spots and less condensation. Because cork breathes, it suits older solid-walled homes where moisture has to be able to move, and it also dulls sound. We can tell you at the survey whether it is right for your property.

What we do

  • A survey to confirm it suits the property
  • Internal walls and ceilings
  • Applied by our own people
  • A seamless finish ready to decorate

Good to know

  • Breathable and resistant to mould
  • Helps with heat and with noise
  • Works for retrofit and conservation jobs
  • A written price before work begins

Property Insulation Specialists for Cardiff

A cold wall is often where damp problems begin, because warm indoor air leaves its moisture on the first cold surface it meets. Better insulation helps with comfort and with condensation, so the two jobs often go together.

We open up walls and ceilings where needed, fit the insulation, then close everything up and finish the surfaces so the room is ready to decorate. Past jobs include insulated plasterboard in living rooms and work in roof spaces.

What we do

  • Cold spots found at the survey
  • Walls and ceilings insulated
  • Insulated plasterboard fitted
  • Surfaces plastered and finished

Good to know

  • Can be paired with damp treatment
  • Cork plaster is an option for some homes
  • Helps reduce condensation
  • Clear quote, no obligation

Ventilation and Damp Control

A home that cannot breathe holds on to moisture. Without a way out, the water from showers, pans and laundry settles on walls and windows, and the mould follows. Often it is a poorly placed fan or a room with no vent at all.

We look at how air moves through the property, then fit the fans or vents that make the difference, in the bathroom, the kitchen or a bedroom. It is often the simplest way to keep a damp problem from coming back.

What we do

  • Airflow checked room by room
  • Bathroom and kitchen fans
  • Wall vents where a room needs them
  • Advice on everyday moisture

Good to know

  • Moisture removed where it is made
  • Works alongside insulation
  • Part of a wider damp control plan
  • Free advice either way
