Do you charge for a damp survey in Cardiff?
No. Our damp surveys are free and there is no obligation. We visit the property, take readings, find the cause and explain what we think should happen next.
How do you treat rising damp?
We inject a silicone barrier into the wall to create a new horizontal damp proof course. Damaged plaster is then taken off and the wall is replastered, ready to decorate.
What materials do you use for tanking a wall?
We use an epoxy resin tanking system. The wall is stripped back and the resin is sealed completely before any new plaster goes on.
Is black mould a sign of damp or condensation?
Often it is condensation. Moisture from everyday living settles on cold surfaces, and mould grows there. We check with a damp meter so you know which it is, and the answer is usually better ventilation or insulation, not damp proofing.
How long does damp proofing take?
It depends on the wall and the treatment. As one example, a job on two damp patches in Cardiff took four visits on consecutive mornings, because each stage has to be done in order. We agree the timescale with you when we quote.
Does the work come with a guarantee?
Yes, a 10-year guarantee. It stays with the house rather than with the person who paid for the work, so if you sell, it passes to the buyer with no transfer fee.
What is cork plaster and will it suit my house?
It is a thin insulating plaster made from natural cork, for walls and ceilings indoors. It breathes, so it works well in older solid-walled homes. We will tell you at the free survey whether it is a good fit.
